PACNY applauds the long-awaited rehabilitation on a favorite Syracuse landmark!

Construction began today on the long-awaited rehabilitation of the Moyer carriage and automobile factory, famous for the house on its rooftop overlooking Onondaga Lake. This $55.4 million project is being undertaken by Housing Visions Consultants Inc. and ADHV Redev CNY LLC, a joint venture between Syracuse developers Ryan Benz and Steve Case.

The team plans to turn the former Moyer carriage and automobile factory into 128 loft apartments, with 59 units being dedicated to disabled residents and victims of domestic violence. In addition, the building will also feature 3,670 square feet of commercial space.

The building was used as a carriage factory, which eventually also produced automobiles, from the early 1880s until 1915. Later owners of the complex included Porter-Cable Machine Co. and Penfield Manufacturing Co., producing mattresses and bedroom furniture. The complex has been empty since Penfield closed in 2006.

The project is being financed through a variety of public funding, including historic rehabilitation tax credits.

PACNY looks forward to seeing the finished product in Fall 2023!
