PACNY 2016 Awards Program – Call For Nominations

2016may10_pacny_newlogoThe Preservation Association of Central New York (PACNY) is pleased to solicit nominations for our annual awards program for 2016! PACNY’s annual awards bring recognition to owners, builders, artisans, designers, educators and activists who work to preserve Central New York’s most distinctive architecture and historic resources.

We invite you to nominate an outstanding project, exceptional individual, or worthy organization from Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, and Oswego Counties to be recognized at PACNY’s 2016 Annual Awards Ceremony. All nominations will be reviewed by PACNY’s Awards Committee and award winners will ultimately be approved by PACNY’s Board of Directors. The 2016 Awards will be presented at a formal ceremony with a reception to be held in June (announcement of date, time, and location to follow).

To nominate a project, individual, or organization for an award from PACNY, please complete an Awards Nomination Form found on our website at http://pacny.net/about-us/awards/ and provide all additional information requested in the Nomination Form.

PACNY Announces 2016 Board of Directors and Officers

The Preservation Association of Central New York (PACNY) elected five new board members at its March 6 annual meeting. Joining the board for three-year terms are:

• Cynthia Carrington Carter, owner of Renaissance Studio, which specializes in historic resources surveys, National Register nominations and Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record reports.

• Rich Cunningham, vice president and senior consultant of Thoma Development Consultants, a community development and planning firm in Cortland.

• Renée K. Gadoua, a freelance writer and editor whose work appears in numerous local and national publications.

• Robert Haley, an architect and educator in private practice and vice chair of the Landmark Preservation Board for the City of Syracuse.

• Grant Johnson, a senior cultural resources specialist at Environmental Design & Research, Landscape Architecture, Engineering & Environmental Services, D.P.C. in Syracuse.

PACNY’s Board of Directors for 2016-2017 also includes:

PACNY Goes To Washington

With advocacy at the core of our mission, it is important that we make sure our voice is heard not only locally, but at the national level as well. For the fourth consecutive year, PACNY participated in National Historic Preservation Advocacy Week in Washington, D.C. Joining colleagues from the New York State Historic Preservation Office and the Preservation League of New York State, Murray Gould, PACNY President, attended briefings on federal budget negotiations and targeted legislative efforts. National Historic Preservation Advocacy Week was March 8 to 10.

During his visit, Gould participated in meetings with staff from Senator Charles Schumer and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s offices, as well as 11 New York congressional representatives. “We had an opportunity to request support for the reauthorization of the Historic Preservation Fund for Fiscal Year 2017, a key source of funding for our SHPO,” Gould said. “We presented reports on historic preservation activities in each congressional district, as well as requesting support for improvements to the federal rehabilitation tax credit program, which would help smaller projects.”

PACNY was particularly pleased to meet with Zach Powell, Legislative Director for Rep. John Katko, and offer our sincere thanks for Katko’s ongoing support of the Harriet Tubman House in Auburn. Gould also thanked Katko for legislation he recently introduced that would authorize a study of Fort Ontario and the Safe Haven Museum in Oswego to become a National Park.
