Following dinner, we will adjourn to the ballroom to have a panel discussion on the ongoing efforts to save the People’s AME Zion Church located at 711 E. Fayette Street, Syracuse. This is an opportunity to support the efforts to rehabilitate an important Sacred Site, continuing our organization’s “Sacred Sites” theme for 2013.

The evening will conclude with a very special presentation of Rev. Jermain Wesley Loguen, set as a “Donation Party” at Syracuse’s Market Hall in June 1852. Loguen is welcomed back to Syracuse by his supporters after spending the previous winter and spring in Canada after the Jerry Rescue Incident in October 1851.

Portraying the Rev. Loguen will be Robert Djed Snead, a graduate of Monroe Community College and SUNY – Brockport. Djed is a published poet, playwright, author, storyteller and historical reenactor.

The Barnes Mansion was the home of Underground Railroad supporter George Barnes. Barnes put up $4,000 bail money ($110,000 in 2012 dollars) for two people who tried to help “Jerry” during the “Jerry Rescue.”

Tour the historic Basilica of the Sacred Heart @ 927 Park Avenue, Syracuse NY
Mar 9 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

PACNY has arranged for a tour of the historic Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Syracuse. This beautiful Catholic church on the city’s west side was built by the first Polish parish in the city, and was designed in the Gothic Revival style by the prominent Syracuse architectural partnership of Merrick & Randall. Completed in 1910, the church features beautiful stained glass windows imported from Munich, Germany, together with windows from the Keck Stained Glass Studios in Syracuse and from St. Louis, MO. The 45-minute tour will focus on the architecture and the history of the parish.

Following the tour, all are welcome to stroll next door to the 1918 Polish Home for light refreshments and a brief talk about the history of the Polish community in Syracuse, and the Polish Home’s efforts to preserve the artifacts of that community, by the Home’s President, Robert Synakowski. Please join us to see beautiful architecture and learn about an important part of Syracuse’s immigrant history.

Tour of Lorenzo State Historic Site @ 17 Rippleton Road, Cazenovia, NY
May 5 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

PACNY has arranged for a tour of the Lorenzo State Historic Site in Cazenovia, including the house and the gardens. This magnificent house was completed in 1808 by John Lincklaen, the founder of Cazenovia and an agent for the Holland Land Company. Possibly influenced by Philip Hooker, a prominent Albany architect, Lorenzo is a textbook example of the refined neoclassical style of architecture so prominent in the early 19th century.

The house remained in the hands of the Lincklaen family and their descendants for five generations until the New York State Historic Trust acquired the estate in the 1960s. With a well-documented interior, the house boasts elegant rooms showcasing a century and a half of occupancy.

The tour of the house and the garden will be led by Barbara Bartlett, the Director of Lorenzo State Historic Site. Following the tour of the house and the garden, we will retire to an adjoining building on the estate for a brief movie about the history of the site and for light refreshments.

Please join PACNY for an enjoyable spring outing to a glorious country estate, and see one of Central New York’s true architectural gems.
